Gary J. Pitzer

Mr. Pitzer specializes in intellectual property issues in diverse cutting-edge fields relating to electronic, computer and biomedical technologies.  From a technical perspective, his practice encompasses complex analog and digital circuitry, computer software design and hardware-software integration, embedded systems, wireless communications, optical communications, networks, microprocessor architecture, application specific circuits, motor controls, medical imaging, image processing, medical equipment as well as semiconductor fabrication and semiconductor devices.  He has drafted well over 500 patent applications in these and other technologies.

Mr. Pitzer serves as patent counsel to numerous technology companies, ranging in size from multi-billion dollar publicly traded companies to small start-ups.  His background in electrical engineering and computer software are essential to his representation of clients.  By leveraging his understanding of client technology, he is able to provide his clients with strategic advice to assist in making critical business decisions.  His patent prosecution experience extends to all phases of the U.S. and PCT process as well as leveraging long-term relationships with agents and associates to secure patent protection worldwide.

Mr. Pitzer also has significant experience in client counseling, which frequently includes rendering opinions regarding freedom-to-operate, non-infringement, invalidity, and patentability.  Through his tenure at the firm, he has developed considerable expertise in conducting searches at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Another aspect of Mr. Pitzer’s client counseling focuses on negotiating and drafting license agreements for his clients in a variety of matters.  Mr. Pitzer is also a regular guest lecturer on intellectual property law for the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University.
