Dr. Russell’s practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the biological and chemical arts in the United States and abroad. He has drafted over 200 different patent applications, covering a wide range of technologies. Representative areas include small molecule pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, diagnostic assays, immunology, polymer science, coating technology, medical devices, biomaterials, biotechnology, and biofuel production. His client counseling responsibilities regularly require him to provide assessments regarding patentability, inventorship, freedom-tooperate and other intellectual property issues.

Prior to entering the practice of law, Dr. Russell worked at the Chemical Abstracts Service as a Scientific Information Analyst in the Biochemistry Department. While a graduate student, he worked for Dr. Hung-wen Liu, a specialist in carbohydrate research and enzymology. His thesis work involved the study of macrophage membrane components and enzyme mechanism studies using chiral methyl sugar substrates.
